Build the starship USS Enterprise!
Devote 0.27% of the U.S. GDP to building the spaceship USS Enterprise over the next 20 years - only half the 0.50% of U.S. GDP NASA spent during the Moon program from 1963 to 1972.
The Gen1 USS Enterprise could be built within the next 20 years. It would have a 1g environment for a crew of 1,000. Funding would only cost $50 billion per year, out of a $3.6 trillion federal budget. It would use proven ion propulsion to reach the Moon in 3 days, reach Mars in 90 days. It would be a test bed for recently developed impulse drive and warp drive technologies. It would stimulate the economy of the entire planet - as well as the hopes and dreams of everyone on it.
