Bulding a canal to transfer water from the Mississipi River west through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Due to continued drought issues in the America's South West it makes sense to use excess water flows from the Mississippi River and channeling them west. Building this channel would help reduce flooding problems that occur regularly on the Mississippi and move the water to states that produce much of the nation's food supplies. Texas is still in the middle of a drought and now California is suffering the same fate. This could be permanent change due to global warming. Building this channel would create thousands of jobs during construction, and provide an additional reliable water resource to a growing part of the nation. Building storage capacity along the route (new lakes and reservoirs) would create additional recreational opportunities as well.
