As a child I was relentlessly bullied at school, and even in junior high. Those were extreme and traumatizing events. School personnel are not trained to recognize and then stop bullying and hazing. Every job I have worked as a nurse has included some type of hazing of new employees, it causes people to make errors, want to quit and feel bad about themselves. Employers make attempts at stopping on the job bullying and hazing but often it makes no difference. Suicides and emotional illness and frank psychological problems are the outcome of this problem, loss of time from work and school, and fighting the indignity and shame and confusion as the victim is time consuming and futile. Parents are often at a loss how to deal with it. Even adults have to struggle with bullying and hazing.
