buy the land on which the Wounded Knee massacre happened and preserve it as a National Monument.

Created by S.V. on April 12, 2013

The site of the 1890 Wounded Knee massacre by US troops of unarmed Lakota people is privately owned, and is for sale for $3.9 million. Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is one of the poorest places in the United States, and the Oglala, who are deeply in debt, should not be expected to pay for it.

It is appropriate that the Federal Government should buy the site and declare it a National Monument. The sale price is not a large amount of money, even in difficult budgetary times, compared to the importance and value of the land.
