With the Senate's lax debate rules, senators hold far too much power as they are able to talk bills to death through filibuster. Filibuster is defined as when a senator takes the floor in a Senate meeting and continues to talk about nothing in particular, solely for the purpose of wasting debate time. This stops critical issues from being resolved, such as what happened with the Civil Rights Act in 1964. There is no reason to allow these elected officials to stop the democratic process.
