This is a petition asking President Obama to make public statements to raise awareness about and respond to the increased rates of poaching of large grazing animals in Africa, such as elephants and rhinos.
These animals are being slaughtered for ivory, which is then brought into the black trade market. The rate at which these animals are being killed accelerates the timeline for their possible extinction.
We respectfully ask the President to call on African nations to crack down on this illegal activity. Additionally we call on the President to engage in dialogue with leaders of countries such as China, where ivory is consumed for luxury goods at staggering rates.
