Dear Mr. President,
We, the undersigned members and friends of The Why? Movement, would like you to call on congress to amend The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) in order to specifically outlaw "conversion therapy".
All major national mental health organizations have expressed serious concerns about the safety and effectiveness of this "therapy", and they indicate that it is likely to harm those who receive it. Following this advice, California and New Jersey have already it.
Through CAPTA, the Federal Government has already established "serious physical or emotional harm" as a standard for determining child abuse. Why should The Federal Government not afford our nation's LGBTQ children the same protection from the evident harm of "conversion therapy"?
