Background
In the wake of the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and in response to the many lives taken by gun violence every day in the United States, it is time to take action for reasonable gun safety policies. Enough is enough.
During the past year alone, 71 people were killed in mass shootings. Firearm-related deaths continue to be one of the top three causes of death among American youth. Gun injuries cause twice as many deaths as cancer, 5 times as many as heart disease, and 15 times as many as infections.
By signing this petition, we, advocates for children's safety, health and well-being, urge reasonable gun safety policies that ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and require universal background checks for gun purchases
