In 2004 under withering opposition from the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA) the Federal Assault Weapons Ban was allowed to lapse, which in turned allowed Holmes, and countless others before him, to not only to purchase the AR-15 weapon but also to fit it with the magazine drum holding a large number of bullets.
To date there have been an astounding 17 mass shootings in the United States including the mass murder at Virginia Tech wherein 32 people were killed and 15 wounded.
Since Congress will not act I am entreating you, Mr. President, to act in the best interest of the nation and her people by calling for the Federal Assault Weapons Ban to be re-instated.
