We continue to hear claims that the U.S. possesses the "highest corporate income tax in the world." Alas, the claims fall short upon scrutiny. By virtue of loopholes, deductions and preferences that have been built into the code over time, the tax code contains what are currently all-time lows in terms of tax rates - particularly, for the affluent. Yet, the economy continues to stagnate, middle-income families have seen but a modicum of income security, and subsistence costs have been rising. I petition that the tax code be reformed so that every household pays a fair share of taxes to rebuild society, beginning with the consolidation of taxes on capital gains and dividends with annual earned income, and modifications to exemptions and deductions.
