Our petition calls for a federal ban on the ability for citizens to purchase and own assault rifles as well as more extensive background checks for the purchase of all firearms. Assault rifles are extremely effective killing tools that have no place on the streets of our communities. Our goal is for these restrictions to be implemented on the federal level. The banning of extremely dangerous weapons like assault rifles must be a top priority in the US policy towards gun control. Since not all gun related crimes are carried out with the use of assault weapons, requiring extensive federal background checks prior to the purchasing of all guns will help keep weapons out of the hands of irresponsible owners.
