We gun control supporters need to work together as one overall group. The NRA operates as one group. I believe that we are too splintered to effectively compete with the NRA. To address this, I suggest that a highly-publicized summit/convention be scheduled for a weekend the Fall. All gun control groups should be present. High profile individuals—President Obama, Vice President Biden, Mayor Bloomberg, governors, presidential candidates—should give speeches. An agenda should be agreed upon—like the “Contract with America” that Newt Gingrich developed in 1995. It should have a catchy name. Action steps should be agreed upon. The purpose of my petition, and this summit, is to unify the people in order to actually achieve progress in limiting gun deaths.
