Mr. President, with your commitment to leading the world on the climate change challenge, we the people, ask you to take a leadership stand for the passage of international Ecocide Law.
Ecocide Law prohibits extensive damage to, destruction of or loss of ecosystems to such an extent that peaceful enjoyment by the inhabitants of that ecosystem has been or will be severely diminished. It is time that acts of ecocide, such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and rainforest deforestation for palm oil production, be criminalized, and that the protection of ecosystems upon which life depends be defensible.
We the people urge you to call for the leaders of the 123 parties of the Rome Statute to make Ecocide the 5th International Crime Against Peace. Your leadership NOW can make the difference.
