We all know taxes are complicated. This complication means taxpayers (and those they hire) need all the time allowed by current law to complete tax returns correctly.
Congress repeatedly passes laws each year which one, changes the rules within the tax year; and two, forces the IRS play catch up and issue forms late. This leads to less time to complete tax returns as well as increases in errors, audits and possible underpayment fines. If Congress & the IRS can not pass laws and issue forms on time, taxpayers should not suffer.
We propose the due date of tax returns is tied directly to when tax laws are passed to ensure tax payers can file correct and timely tax returns.
