In the wake of recent school shootings, it is evident that the Gun Free School Zones Act, by allowing concealed carry by licensed firearms owners in school zones but banning carry and discharge on school grounds, identifies schools as targets of opportunity for individuals who seek to go on shooting sprees as the children and adults there are defenseless.
By calling for legislation that will provide for concealed carry on school grounds by qualified school administrators, teachers, select employees, and parents of children enrolled at that school, government would create 1) an active deterrent to school shootings and 2) an immediate means of defense for employees and children in the unfortunate event of a school shooting.
Put aside the party stances and work to mitigate the next tragedy.
