This morning, a gunman killed 26 people, including 18 children, at an elementary school in Newton, CT. This is but the latest of a string of mass shootings that have occurred regularly over the past two decades.
Previous efforts to stymie the gun violence epidemic have been thwarted by our Supreme Court-–leaving Congress and our state legislatures unable to address this scourge. The time has come to begin the process of amending the constitution to provide for a full repeal of the second amendment. Only then will state legislatures be able to pass reasonable gun control laws and insure that their citizens can attend schools, houses of worship, and movie theaters without the fear that they or their children will be the victims of gun violence.
