Call Turkey's prime minister Erdogan out on violations of freedoms of speech

Created by A.A. on June 02, 2013

The Erdogan government has repeatedly impinged on Turkish citizens' freedoms of speech. The most recent evidence of this is the disproportionate police violence in response to protests in Istanbul and other cities, where tear gas and water cannons were used against non-violent protesters.

These are not the first occurrence of Erdogan's efforts to curtail dissent: Many journalists are unjustly imprisoned. Most TV channels have not broadcast the protests for fear of persecution. The administration has passed laws and made decisions with no input from the public or other parties. Erdogan has publicly acknowledged to "create a religious youth" in relation to education reforms that endanger secularity.

Please call him out on his abuses of power, and speak out for freedom of speech in Turkey.
