Two of the largest dangers to our democracy and our way of life are Gerrymandering and the undue influence wielded by a few extremely wealthy political patrons.
Gerrymandering enables the drawing of election districts so convoluted that incumbents are virtually assured of reelection and hence feel no need to compromise for the good of all.
Recent Supreme Court decisions have struck down laws aimed at imposing reasonable limits on campaign financing; thus allowing the concentration of even more power in the hands of a few wealthy "Super-Donors". The first amendment was intended to protect the rights of individuals to free speech, not to allow corporations to unduly influence elections; it appears another constitutional amendment is necessary to remind the Justices to use common sense.
