cancel all but the minimum required inauguration activities ... to demonstrate your commitment to save taxpayers' money

Created by H.M. on December 31, 2012

Spending money for the inauguration of a sitting president seems wasteful ... the security savings alone would be worthwhile. But particularly with the fiscal cliff, federal deficit, and the slow economic recovery ... cancellation of the big parties and parades that are paid for with taxpayer funds would at least demonstrate that the Administration is aware of the appearance of partying while others are tightening their belts. Even if normally these parties and events are funded through private pockets, having the White House take a minimalist stance to public and lavish displays of spending would send a positive message to Americans that the Administration is tightening their belts in partnership with the middle income and poorer citizens.
