Cancel the F-35 program. This aircraft program has been mired in delays since its inception. It is now 7 years behind schedule and 70% over its initial cost estimate. Total lifecycle costs, including development costs, procurement, maintenance, fuel and labor costs are projected to be around $1.5 trillion dollars. The military just lifted a grounding of the aircraft after a crack was found in a turbine blade in an F-35 engine. Additionally, the military lowered the F-35's projected performance in January.
The fact is that this weapons system is far too expensive and is taking far too long to develop. We need to scrap this program. Our previous fighter program, the F-22 Raptor, has not once been used in combat.
