Cancel its proposal to charge entrance fees along the entire Chesapeake & Ohio National Historical Park

The National Park Service is considering charging entrance fees at all areas of the Chesapeake &Ohio Canal National Historical Park (C&O Canal).
The C&O Canal has a 184.5 mile towpath for walkers, runners and cyclists as well as boat ramps and campsites.
For the most part, use of the C&O Canal is free of charge. Volunteers help clean and patrol the park for its patrons. The Park Service contends that fees are needed for providing for “public safety, recreation and resource protection”; however, the park has flourished for decades absent these fees.
Further, because of the geography of the park, fee collection will be difficult to enforce. The worst case scenario would be one in which fees actually end up being used to support fee collection.
