I disagree with Mlitary Sealift Command's (MSC) decision to consolidate its workforce to Norfolk, VA within the next 5 years. This transition will be costly, disrupt the command's mission, and negatively impact hundreds of current employees' lives. Given our current budgetary constraints and desire to reduce Government spending, this consolidation will be costly to purchase/renovate facilities, re-hire employees, re-train employees, and re-locate employees due to the transition and turnover that will occur. The announcement was demoralizing to the superb, and efficient, MSC employees in DC.
MSC is a U.S. Navy organization that controls most of the replenishment and military transport ships of the Navy. The current workforce of 1,200 employees operate mainly out of DC and Norfolk.
