Eliminate any potential financial benefit for being a custodial parent. Child support should be for children, not for custodial parents. Our current child support formulas bring children into the middle of a financial tug of war. Capping child support at the minimum amount could be a first step to making sure that child support is used to support the child. According to the Bradley Amendment, child support is an unerasable debt. We should all take extra care to be sure that it is earmarked for the child and not the custodial parent's lifestyle.
