I am asking the government to set a cap on working hours per week for salaried (exempt) employees. The cap could be set at a high level of 60 or 70 hours a week - some limit over which employers must pay overtime or employees must stop working. I often see employers abusing the exempt status of employees and forcing them to work an unreasonable amount of work hours which is detrimental to productivity, health, family life and civic life and engagement.
Currently, hourly (non-exempt) employees have a cap of 40 hours and labor protections that salaried employees do not have. As salaried employees, we understand we work until the project is done but at some point, the number of hours worked becomes unreasonable.
Please consider providing labor protection exempt employees.
