United States allows up to 12 weeks off with no pay. If you do receive a pay, it is through a program your work offers, which you pay for then only receive a small fraction of your actual wage starting 14 days from day of disability (birth).
Germany for example allows 14 weeks off and 80 percent pay, not through an optional program.
Finland allows 105 days with 70 percent pay, not through optional program.
Austria allows 16 weeks off with 100 percent pay, not through an optional program.
France 16 weeks off with 100 percent pay, not through an optional program.
Many other countries allow more time off of work with guaranteed pay not through any Short term disability and the pay begins day of birth.
