On February 24 the Ugandan President signed into law a bill criminalizing homosexuality. While homosexuality is already illegal, this bill goes further to include imprisonment of up to a life sentence. It allows for the extradition of Ugandans living outside of Uganda in order to face charges and punishment. The bill also includes years in prison for anyone who counsels or reaches out to homosexuals.
President Museveni stated "If the West doesn't want to work with us because of homosexuals, then we have enough space here to live by ourselves and do business with other people." President Obama warned that enacting the bill would affect relations between the two nations. The U.S. is Uganda's largest bilateral donor. It is time to cease all U.S. non-healthcare aid to Uganda immediately.
