The American economy is in dire straits, and current political debate is dominated not by whether to make painful spending cuts, but rather from which much-needed programs.
Meanwhile, America spends nearly $700,000,000,000 per year on its defense budget (more than the next 17 countries combined). Much of that astronomical sum goes to pay for two ongoing wars that many Americans do not support.
Most importantly, our brave soldiers - fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers - risk their lives each and every day in these unnecessary wars. We, the undersigned, no longer feel comfortable asking them to make that heroic sacrifice in our name.
Let's bring the troops home safely to their families so we can look at smarter ways to spend that $700,000,000,000.
