The Department of Justice and members of Congress seek to compel companies, like Apple, to unlock a device with a custom software update. Now that Apple has refused to comply, select members of Congress seek to penalize Apple for defending our American civil liberties.
The devastating implications of the government's demands are severe and pervasive. Their coercion will adversely affect the entire world for years to come by undermining security on a fundamental level. At what point would the government "hacking" our devices be tantamount to plugging into a human and seeing his every thought or memory? Our devices have become extensions of ourselves. We should protect our devices like we would protect ourselves.
