Cease any effort to ban the ArmaLite Rifle 15 semi-automatic sporting rifle and any of its variants.

Created by D.F. on June 11, 2015

Recently there has been a vast effort to ban the production and sale of the ArmaLite Rifle platform, more commonly known as the AR-15. This effort, although pursued for noble reasons, will not make any significant dent in gun crime as the rifle accounts for less than 1% of all gun crime nationwide. The rifle, although frightening in appearance, is no more dangerous than any other .223/5.56 caliber semi-automatic rifle and, unlike its big brother, the M16, it will never be capable of anything but semi-automatic fire without extensive and skilled modification that would redefine it as an assault rifle. Further, we would ask that lawmakers who claim to hold enough knowledge on guns to pass laws refrain from using incorrect terminology such as "assault weapon", "clip", and "high capacity".
