Cease Producing Both The Penny & Nickel Immediately.

Created by R.B. on February 02, 2013

For FY 2012, the cost to create one penny cost two cents. To create a nickel, it cost ten cents. Over the past two years alone, this waste of taxpayer funds has totaled approx. $250 million dollars. For the past seven years, with the fluctuation of the pricing in the materials to create these two currencies, the taxpayer has lost a total of approx. $465 million dollars. In an economic climate that is fragile to say the least, unneeded expenditures such as this need to be stopped because the cost/benefit is not viable. With a GDP over a trillion each year, half a billion may not seem like much in comparison, but we need to look at reasonable avenues to address wasteful spending and this I believe, is one.
