The government should simply alter its contract to cease production of the Abrams battle tank and instead utilize funding for the maintenance of the current fleet in the case of another conflict calling for heavy armor support. Funding instead should be diverted into developing next generation light armor and support vehicles, such as new APCs or replacements for the Humvee.
