Problems with our Federal drug policy are myriad and profound. Unfortunately, our legislators lag far behind the public's recognition that our current policies have failed, and that we ought to regulate marijuana like alcohol. This will drastically reduce the financial cost of prosecuting millions of marijuana users, while allowing those same users to contribute their full talents to our society.
And so we end up looking to the individual states to initiate forward progress on the issue. Indeed, this past 2012 election cycle saw Washington and Colorado state legalize marijuana and regulate it in much the same way outlined above.
We must demand that the Obama administration allow the expression of the will of these states' citizenry, and look to them as a guide and model for future reform
