The Young American Voters Association is launching a campaign to reform laws regarding consensual sexting and minors. The recent case in North Carolina where both young adults were over the age of consent but under the age of majority is just one good example of the negative consequences these laws can have. The treatment of such activity on the same level as the acts of a rapist or child predator is not only extreme it is cruel and unusual. Consensual activity of this nature may be dealt with in any number of ways, but prison time and registry as a sex offender should not be one of them. We call upon the office of the President to begin a campaign to eradicate this terrible injustice, restore the victims to freedom, and institute national guidelines for the modern era.
