The PRISM program recently disclosed by the Washington Post is both in direct contravention of the spirit of the Constitution and a threat to the security of American citizens. No data, no matter how well protected, is completely secure. Gathering this data invites any of a number of groups to acquire it and use it against innocent civilians.
Moreover, this sort of big-data dragnet method of searching for hits is easily counteracted. The simple use of a program like Tor can completely avoid this system. Not only is this program wrong, it is also ineffective.
As a President who promised us better, we ask that President Obama end the PRISM program and act to protect Americans from this sort of government intrusion in the future.
