Whereas the Ugandan government has sought to criminalize homosexuality and impose life-destroying punishments on perceived and actual LGBT people, the United States can no longer provide aid, either financial or otherwise. In 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated that the United States will henceforth use LGBT rights in its dealings with foreign nations. This precludes Uganda as an ally or beneficiary of the United States of America.
Furthermore, the leaders of Uganda have been unduly influenced by people with religious backgrounds for nefarious purposes. The government of the United States must acknowledge their influence and publicly rebuke them.
