The term Assault Weapon is an intentionally vague term that the media and more importantly the Government use on a regular basis when discussing firearms. When people use the term "Assault Weapon" it causes the mind to think of Assault Rifles and other fully automatic weapons. Therefore when it's said "People shouldn't have access to Assault Weapons" it tricks the public into thinking it is discussing fully automatic rifles, creating false support. There is no official definition of an Assault Weapon, therefore anyone can use the term to apply to nearly every firearm in existence. Because people who are not informed on the issues assume Assault Weapons and Assault Rifles are the same thing, they are likely to push for a ban of weapons that is far more expansive than what they believe.
