The Equal Pay Act (EPA) was passed in 1963, which was no doubt a great achievement. However, time has revealed that there are holes in this legislative vessel, contributing to the stagnation of the narrowing wage gap. The EPA prohibits pay differentials based solely on gender within the same organization, but it only allows for a maximum of three years of retro-pay. The Paycheck Fairness Act would help to provide additional protections and legal tools for gender-based wage discrimination equivalent to existing protections and tools available to individuals experiencing other types of discrimination (based on race, religion, ethnicity, etc.).
