The NCAA Men's basketball tournament, commonly referred to as "March Madness," is one of our greatest American traditions, sporting or otherwise. Although the tournament spans three weekends, the most watched and most exciting part is undoubtedly the first round, which is played on a Thursday and Friday. These two days, along with Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July, are among the few occasions when Americans of all walks of life come together to celebrate our common heritage. It is estimated that businesses staying open on these days costs the American economy $192 million. Therefore, let us declare that March 21-22, 2013, will be celebrated as national holidays, and every year thereafter, the first Thursday and Friday of the NCAA tournament shall be national holidays.
