School shootings, stabbings, children cutting themselves to "relieve pain" are just some reasons why schools should have the personnel to help children, teens and young adults deal with daily stressors. With more and more testing in schools, children must deal with scores and grades, in addition to any baggage they bring from home. Children have so much to contend with and less and less opportunities to release stress. How many schools have cut the arts and school guidance programs? Emotional health and well-being is as important as reading, writing and arithmetic. Without school counselors who can help students deal with their problems, learning cannot take place. How many more deaths have to occur before policymakers get it?
