The 2012 National Defense Authorization Act enshrines in law the ability of the U.S. military to detain citizens without warrant, and without the due process guaranteed by the Constitution (fifth and fourteenth amendments).
The potential of this law to be used indiscriminately and subjectively violates the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
The right to fair legal process - for all persons, no matter how heinous their crime - is at the very core of a civilized and democratic society. The prevention of singular, subjective action by government officials is paramount to prevention of autocracy, and to the checks and balances envisioned by the Founders.
