Challenge the Texas state ban on cities (like Denton) to limit hydraulic fracturing in high densly urban areas

Created by A.S. on April 17, 2015

Texas state house passed a bill to bar cities from banning fracking and enacting a wide variety of other oil and gas-related ordinances. This action makes a mockery of local and municipal control. This decision backed by Big Oil is in direct reaction to the city of Denton's historic move in late 2014 to ban fracking within its city limits. The overturning of this ban by the state of Texas sets a dangerous precedent nationwide and strengthens the position of oil-based special interest groups and their vice like grip on lawmakers. The original fracking ban in the highly populated Denton city area was supported by a majority of the city inhabitants citing environmental and public health and safety concerns. Reversal of this modest win for the citizens is a big step backwards for this nation.
