Wayne LaPierre and the NRA are masters of quashing discourse. When citizens, public or private, call for common sense reforms in the wake of mass shootings, LaPierre and company accuse them of callously politicizing tragedy. Later, after the bodies are buried, they spin the false narrative that those seeking to curtail death would ban all firearms, while demanding we inject more guns into our daily lives. They spout half-truths and logical fallacies, often in coded language that pries at racial and religious divides. Theirs is a cynical message designed to dishearten the majority that yearns to make our country safer. It must be refuted directly. Therefore, we ask that President Obama challenge Wayne LaPierre to a nationally televised, fact-checked debate on the subject of gun control.
