At the time this is being written, the Federal deficit is well over $16.289 trillion and counting. Our national debt equates to around $51,000 for every single person living in America (fixthedebt.org). By promoting the institution of a balanced federal budget, the overall debt should at the very least begin to decrease slowly.
Most states require that the budgets be balanced. Why then should the Federal Government be exempt. Too much out of control spending occurs in Congress, and it needs to be dealt with.
If we continue to allow for this debt to be passed down, the next generation will have to pay for it. I'm 19. MY Generation will have to pay for it.
