We urge the Obama administration to champion the repeal of the Federal Wire Act and UIGEA as the laws are outdated and not fit for the purpose the original Federal Wire Act was intended for (attacking organized crime which have ironically benefitted from it). 1) It is inconsistent that sports gambling is illegal but other forms of gambling like lottery's and horse racing are deemed acceptable. This is picking winners and the government should not be in that business. 2) Gambling on sports is still taking place just with greater risk to our citizens using unregulated bookies and offshore websites which puts citizens at greater risk of fraud and abuse. By repealing this outdated law it would put the approval and regulation of this industry back to the state level where it belongs.
