Change the 4th of July Holiday to the Independence Day Holiday celebrated on the first Saturday of July

Created by J.L. on February 14, 2013

Celebrating our nation's Independence on the 4th day of July is a hardship when it falls on a day of the week other than a Saturday. Our cultural mandate is to watch fireworks displays after dark, which is late in the evening usually after 10 PM. This makes for a hardship for those that need to get up early the next morning, which is the majority of Americans if it falls on a Sunday through Friday. Also, a secondary cultural mandate involved in celebrating our nation's Independence is to have a social gathering, usually involving food in the nature of a picnic or a potluck. Attempting to do this on a weekday makes it almost impossible. Celebrating our nation's Independence on the first Saturday of July eliminates the difficulties and promotes a larger sense of patriotic culture.
