Circumcision despite popular belief does not have health benefits nor is it more hygienic. It also has negative side effects. The removal of foreskin causes the loss of millions of nerve endings, making sex less pleasurable. There is no benefit from circumcision, and the popularity of circumcision in America arose from pseudoscience and the misconception that the removal of foreskin would prevent masturbation. Circumcising infants infringes upon the rights of the individual being circumcised, however it is within religious tradition. To preserve freedom of religion, circumcision should still be an option, but only if the individual being circumcised is at least twelve years old and consents to the procedure.
