At present, it is illegal to bring red meat products into the US from abroad. The stated rationale, to stop the chance of introducing new diseases into American livestock, while well intentioned, does not work. Any disease that could be conveyed by bringing meat products into the US could just as easily be conveyed by eating the same products overseas.
