The year is 2013 and many family units in the united states are composed of unmarried families. Often the sole provider of such a family supports their partner and children that are not biologically related to the provider. If these tax credits are intended to help struggling families then why do they not apply in this scenario? Help ALL families in poverty and make the appropriate changes to these tax credits. Big business gets tax credits across the board while some family units like mine struggle to put food in the mouths of children we care for as if they are our own. I am now married and will be eligible for these credits but why should the government force marriage in order to help struggling families? Please stop this unfair practice and make real change!
