Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit substance in the U.S. and each year, approximately 800,000 arrests are for marijuana possession. This costs us at least $10 billion annually.
Marijuana is currently classified as a Schedule I drug. This means that it has a high potential for abuse, no accepted medical use, and that there is a lack of safe methods of use. This might sound strange considering 19 states have legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes.
The fact is, there actually is accepted uses of marijuana for medicinal purposes, but federally, the DEA denies this. Uses include but are not limited to, Glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, Cancer, and Multiple Sclerosis.
