Christopher Columbus is a historical figure whose life has been defined by his self exclaimed levels of courage and intestinal fortitude; however, such impressive traits should never blur the fact that he oversaw a murderous quest for material riches that resulted in the demise of an entire people. Each year, the second Monday of October we celebrating his life in total denial of his actions.
This Italian explorer fathered slavery, raped and pillaged millions, and oversaw a genocide of 3,000,000 indigenous people of the Bahamas.
We should not celebrate one man's actions that so closely resemble that of Adolf Hitler, Moa Zedong, and Joseph Stalin.
